A beautifully written book, delicate and subtle, with a gripping storyline running under the surface.  The animals are bought to life with well developed characters, and Dartmoor is beautifully described on the page.  All in all a superb step back into the softer past.  A perfect match would be to settle in your favourite chair with a glass of classy Montepulciano, such as Colli Cavlieri 2016, a enjoy a few pages of this lovely natural writing, or go with the book and try a touch too much Devon cider!
