Community owned since 2013, our High Street shop is in Crediton, Devon. We also sell online nationwide.
We work with schools, care homes, foodbanks and more, tackling community needs and enriching lives.
Any book lover will tell you that independent bookshops strive to be at the foundation of our communities. And within the category of indie bookshops there's another very special category: those that are nonprofit and collectively-owned.
Our mission is to create an environment for enterprising, resilient and creative communities inspired by books and stories.
We provide pioneering projects supporting literacy, community well-being and access to cultural opportunities for all funded by sales from our bookshop and website. It's a win-win: ‘buy books, grow community’.
Thank you for being part of our story.

Our Story
Crediton Bookshop became community owned in 2013 and has over 300 shareholders. In 2016 we moved to the larger Grade II listed building that is our current home. It is now called The Bookery, a not-for-profit independent bookshop that hosts a range of events and actively pioneers programmes supporting literacy, community well-being and access to cultural & learning opportunities.
Our Volunteers
All our volunteers are superheroes, bringing skills and experience to help us develop exciting & meaningful projects in the community.
