Dominic Myers (General Manager)
I joined as General Manager in 2024 and am responsible for the overall management and day to day operations of both the bookshop and our outreach program. To have the opportunity to manage a bookshop owned by the community committed with such a distinct purpose is a rare privilege. Having previously been a Chair of Board of Governors for a not for profit school in the Middle East I am keen to build on the amazing outreach activities that we already provide through our fabulous volunteers, building partnerships with other organisations to extend the work we do with young children, in schools and for older or isolated people.
Carl East (Bookshop Manager)
I’ve managed bookshops for over 25 years, from chain booksellers in London to independents in the Westcountry, having also worked with and organised festivals and author events for A-listers to debut writers. I love channelling my experience to benefit a community enterprise that’s committed to spreading the joy of reading. Books have always been a refuge and a source of learning for me, and I get a lot of satisfaction in finding the right books for the right people. I live in Exeter with my wife, cat and two teenage daughters, and am especially keen to support anyone navigating the maze of education for neurodivergent young people.
Fee Billen (Assistant Bookshop Manager)
With over thirty years of Retail experience and a deep love for books and reading, I was delighted to be able to combine the two when I joined The Bookery in October 2023. As part of my job, I manage the shop with Carl and Create & Manage all our Social Media alongside Claire. I love finding new brilliant reads and sharing them with the bookstore's community.
Cliff Shephard (Logistics & IT Manager)
I have variously been an actor, script editor, postman and bookshop and comic shop manager - I joined The Bookery in 2021 to help in its mission to promote literacy and reading throughout the south west. I'm currently responsible for stock buying and control, our IT, and the logistics of the business. In my spare time, I am books editor for The Madrid Review, a literary magazine based in Spain.
Claire Lewis (Design Administrator)
I’m a languages teacher and children’s author/illustrator who joined The Bookery in 2021 to help with the rebranding of the shop from Crediton Community Bookshop to 'The Bookery', combining the brilliant rook drawings and logos of our wonderful patron, illustrator Sarah McIntyre, into designs for everything from bookmarks and bunting to cake toppers and our distinctive mustard tote bag. My work still focuses mainly on design (for example the event posters you might see around town) but I also do some general admin work and help Fee Billen with our social media output.
Kate Tucker (Volunteer Manager)
I have a background in education, specialising in teaching early years children and family learning, and more latterly in supporting the wellbeing of older people. I joined The Bookery in 2021 as volunteer co-ordinator working with our large team of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers. I am now also directly involved in several of our outreach programmes which includes supporting older and isolated people in the community and also families with young children. I find this hugely rewarding. When I am not working or reading, I enjoy ballet, walking and watching birds.
