The book examines Richard Newcourt’s map of Barnstaple and then expands on a detailed history of the town for the period 1640-1670. 20 contributors look at an interpretation of a comprehensive range of subjects, from the buildings shown in the map, to the Civil War, and much more. The Map is virtually unknown by people and was “rediscovered” by Todd Gray at the Bodleian Library and is now being brought to Barnstaple in an exhibition, Mapping our Town, at the Museum.
