Seven deaths of evelyn

First novel

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

Stuart Turton

In Turton’s debut, Evelyn Hardcastle will be killed … Again. Murder mystery meets Groundhog Day; this novel is fiendishly clever and an exhilarating read. An outstanding debut!

normal people

Novel

Normal People

Sally Rooney

An exquisite love story about how a person can change another person’s life – a simple yet profound realisation that unfolds beautifully over the course of the novel. It tells us how difficult it is to talk about how we feel and it tells us – blazingly – about cycles of domination, legitimacy and privilege.

the cut out girl

Biography

The Cut Out Girl

Bart van Es

Bart es Van tells the story of Lien, a Jewish girl who was given away in the hope that she might be saved. Hidden and raised by a foster family in Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation, she survived the war only to find that her real parents had not. Bart van Es’s account is a searing exploration of two lives and two families. It is a story about love and misunderstanding and about the ways that our most painful experiences – so crucial in defining us – can also be redefined.

assurances

Poetry

Assurances

J.O. Morgan

Assurances is an intimate, dramatic work for many voices: lyrical, anxious, fragmentary and terrifying; a poem about the nuclear stalemate, the deterrent that is still in place today: how it works and how it might fail, and what will vanish if it does.

skylarks war

Children's Book

The Skylarks’ War

Hilary McKay

The Skylarks’ War is a beautiful story following the loves and losses of a family growing up against the harsh backdrop of World War One, from the award-winning Hilary McKay.
